There are few more astute form students than champion jockey Basil Marcus. The admirable South African pilot sided with Score (5.6-1) in the penultimate Class Four mile contest and his judgment was not far from the money as the Alex Wong Siu-tan four-year-old was noted getting home strongly for fourth behind Cash Fortune. Beaten for pace in the early stages, Score knuckled down to the task in the final three furlongs and will recoup investments. One of unluckiest runners of the evening was Ricky P. F. Yiu's Telecom Prince (13-1) who finished a close second to Wonderful Winners in the final Class Three mile event. He met interference when making his move leaving the back and fought on gallantly to grab the quinella spot. He would almost certainly have won had he gained a clear passage at that vital stage.
