A delegation of business leaders, lawyers and academics is to fly to the United States tomorrow to brief politicians and investors on how Hong Kong is coping with the economic recession.
Led by Executive Councillor Nellie Fong Wong Kut-man, the delegation also includes Exco member Henry Tang Ying-yen.
It will visit four cities, including the American capital Washington, to present an assessment of the political and economic situation in the Special Administrative Region. The delegation's visit, sponsored by the Better Hong Kong Foundation, comes amid criticism on the Government's intervention in the stock and futures markets.
The trip will be followed by Financial Secretary Donald Tsang Yam-kuen's visit to the World Bank/International Monetary Fund conference in Washington.
Mr Tsang will take steps during his visit to assure the international community that Hong Kong remains a free economy.
Other delegates include Law Society president Anthony Chow Wing-kin, former solicitor-general Daniel Fung Wah-kin, Chinese University Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies associate director Lau Siu-kai, Securities and Futures Commission chairman-designate Andrew Sheng and Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce director Eden Woon.
