An exhibition on ancient Chinese inventions will be staged later this month as part of government efforts to promote the national heritage. The Provisional Urban Council display, from late this month to January, follows a successful exhibition last year on Chinese cultural relics. In a paper to councillors, the Government said promotion and preservation of the national heritage had formed an important part of its cultural activities. It said that since the handover the Government was aware it needed to go through a gradual process of getting to know national history and culture. 'To this end, we have to rely on civic and school education,' the paper said. The Government also encouraged the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to offer a Chinese Traditional Theatre course in the 1999-2000 school year.
