More welfare workers will be recruited next year to deal with family-related problems. This year, 26 new staff have been deployed at family services centres for case counselling. Extra clinical psychologists had been brought in to handle crises, said Social Welfare Department assistant director Cecilia Tong Luk See-han. The trend is set to continue next year but the official, responsible for family and child welfare services, would not give numbers. All would be revealed in the Chief Executive's Policy Address next month.
