Recently, my wife went on a business trip and I decided to accompany her part way on the Airport Express. We boarded at Hong Kong Station, I using my Octopus card, and she with a ticket purchased at the station. It was my intention to travel until Kowloon Station and, from there, use another means to reach my office.
After disembarking at Kowloon Station I looked for the exit turnstile but could not find one. I then approached a member of MTR staff who looked very surprised at my request to exit the station. After insisting that was my desire, I was taken to the Customer Service Desk where it was explained this was not really possible. After further insistence, a small gate was opened and I was allowed through. My Octopus card was then taken away for verification that I had boarded at Hong Kong Station, and to ensure the normal fare of $70 would be charged.
I then tried to find a taxi, which entailed a 10-minute walk through several corridors and walkways.
Could this have been an oversight by the Airport Express people? TERENCE RONSON Stanley
