1-MIN READ1-MIN
A technician accused of trying to rape a 15-year-old schoolgirl said yesterday he had obtained her name and phone number from the Regional Council.
Choi Lin-cheong, 37, told a Court of First Instance jury he had called the girl to invite her to a swimming contest.
Asked by his barrister, Peter Cosgrove, how he came to know the girl's name, Choi replied: 'From information I gathered from the Regional Council. It came to my attention that she had taken part in various competitions.' Choi denies attempting to rape the girl, now 16, on December 18, 1996. He also denies indecently assaulting her and wounding her mother. The trial continues before Mr Justice Frank Stock today.
