Financial details of the deal and its duration were not disclosed.

The agreement means that DreamWorks pictures will make their TV debut on either of HBO Asia's channels - HBO or Cinemax.

The studio was formed to great fanfare in 1994, marrying the talents of Spielberg, record mogul David Geffen and former Disney studio chief Jeffrey Katzenberg.

In Hong Kong, HBO is only available on Wharf Cable as a subscription service and costs about $80 a month on top of the regular cable package.

DreamWorks films will still have a cinema and video release before appearing on HBO.
