Attending a university overseas can be a daunting experience. Apart from coping with language problems, cultural barriers, a different environment and educational system, Hong Kong students still have to compete with Australian students on the same level.
One way of easing this path into Australia's tertiary system is via Trinity College on the campus of the University of Melbourne.
The college, founded in 1872, has a long history of catering to the needs of overseas students. It runs a programme to prepare them for university studies which can also be accredited towards a degree.
The Trinity College Foundation Studies Programme, academically supervised by the University of Melbourne, helps students secure a place at the university.
'The programme can save Hong Kong students a year of university studies,' the director of admissions, Amanda Crawley, said.
The college offers accelerated, extended and early entry programmes to meet individual student's needs. A wide range of courses is provided, including accounting, chemistry, communications and society, computing, English, mathematics, physics, and psychology. Economics, biology and music were added for this year.
