China's National Day on October 1 is the next opportunity for restaurants to load their menus with celebratory offerings - and they are betting harbour-side locations will command a premium, even at restaurants without direct views over the water. Scala at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel on the Wan Chai waterfront is opening up one of its guest rooms so diners can watch the fireworks in comfort. The four-course dinner ($520 per person plus 10 per cent) will be served around the event. Reservations on 2802-8888. The Regent Hong Kong is also laying on a guest suite, and popping champagne, so diners at Plume, Yu and Club Shanghai can watch the fireworks. The hotel's various restaurants are offering special menus, including a $780-per-person Chinese dinner at Lai Ching Heen, and a five-course menu at Plume, also $780 a head. The five-course seafood menu at Yu is $720 a head. All prices are subject to an extra 10 per cent. Reservations on 2721-1211. The Hong Kong String Quartet and Friends is playing for its lunch on October 4, at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile's Crystal Ballroom. The event begins at 11.30am with pre-performance drinks, followed by the recital from noon to 1pm. A buffet lunch ($200 plus 10 per cent) follows at 1pm. Call 2315-1269. Stanley's French restaurant moves shop on Tuesday. The new location is at 90B Stanley Main Street - 50 metres down the road from the previous address - where it will share a building with Stanley's Oriental. Stanley's French, which celebrates its 20th anniversary next year, will be on the first and second floors; the Oriental on the ground and fourth floors. A private room with a lounge area is available on the ninth floor for intimate dinners for up to 12 people. Call 2813-8873. The Furama Hotel is rolling out one of the recession's better offers with a half lobster and unlimited soft drinks and Warsteiner beer as the temptation to eat lunch at the revolving restaurant, La Ronda. There is also one free lunch buffet for every party of four. The promotion runs from October 2 to December 15 and costs $240 for adults and $180 for children. Dinner drawcards are unlimited lobster and free meals for large parties from Sunday to Thursday. The deal is less attractive on Friday and Saturday nights, but still includes unlimited lobster. Dinner costs $380 for adults and $300 for children. There is also an early-bird buffet on Fridays and Saturdays from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Call 2848-7422.
