A shop assistant jailed over the 'most depraved' pornography a magistrate had seen had his sentence halved on appeal yesterday.

The Court of First Instance ruled that while the material was obscene, the 12-month term imposed on Ng Man-wah, 45, was excessive.

Mr Justice Peter Nguyen noted that Magistrate Peter White had been horrified and angered by VCDs seized from the Aberdeen shop where Ng had worked.

The magistrate said Ng's pornography 'catered to the basic instincts of the sickest people in our community'.

Mr White had watched two of the 30 discs seized, which depicted women engaging in acts of bestiality.

On June 5 this year, Ng was convicted in Western Court of possessing obscene articles for the purpose of publication.
