The most interesting thing about Madonna's chameleon qualities as a star is that she has even managed to shrug off her second-to-last incarnation (has-been 1980s star trying to get attention by having a baby), to reappear as a new woman again: a spiritual leader with a stunning new album.
She walked off with a fair share of the trophies in the recent MTV Video Music Awards (World, 11am) for her new single Ray of Light. These included Best Female Video, Best Direction in a Video, Best Editing and Best Choreography and a special Best Video of the Year Award, presented to Madonna by Geri Halliwell, formerly Ginger Spice, one of the few women in the music business who can match Madonna for sheer chutzpah.
Keanu Reeves attempted to remake himself after his early successes in the Bill and Ted movies, which is understandable as the role scarcely gave him much scope as an actor.
Unluckily for Reeves, he really does not have much scope as an actor. It would probably have been better if he had stuck to the Dude movies and actioners, where he just has to run up and down and look worried, rather than dabbling in religion as the Enlightened One in Little Buddha and ruining an otherwise excellent production of Much Ado About Nothing.
He had nothing to be ashamed of in the Bill and Ted movies. After all, they introduced a whole new language to the world, Dudespeak, which impressed linguists because of the way its users managed to convey so much, with so few actual words.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (World, 10.20pm) was the first Bill and Ted movie, when the two high school dumbos were still just dreaming of becoming rock stars with their band, the Wyld Stallyns. All this is threatened by Ted's parents' insistence that if he cannot pass a history exam, they will pack him off to a military academy.
