MS Christine Loh (South China Morning Post, April 7) is wrong in one vital respect. Assume that sycophancy is the hallmark of the conduct of Chinese politics, ancient or modern (an assumption born out almost every day as China's officials and supporters uniformly parrot their destructive party line on Hongkong), then one reality becomes very clear: Sir David Akers-Jones is indeed Chinese to his bones. Somewhere, somehow, the knife slipped in Ms Loh's make-up. She has ceased to be Chinese because she both thinks and speaks on the basis of her own convictions. PETER BATHURST Lantau
