Tung Chee-hwa should act to ensure the sluggish property market gradually revives, according to DAB leader Tsang Yok-sing. The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong head said Mr Tung should convince people in his second Policy Address next week that the market would be restored to a 'steadily and moderately rising trend'. 'People will be disappointed if there is no sign that the Government will modify its housing provision plans to revitalise the market,' he said on RTHK's Letter to Hong Kong yesterday. The legislator also urged Mr Tung to summon the courage to change or scrap commitments made in his first policy speech last year. He doubted whether the public would believe Mr Tung's promises were as good as ever following the drastic economic changes over the past year. '[Mr Tung] may win more understanding and support if he makes a realistic assessment of the situation and admits that for reasons beyond the control of his administration, some of his earlier plans have to be modified or abandoned,' he said.
