I AM puzzled by remarks made by May Gold of the Law Society claiming that in 1994, solicitors will be required to contribute to a ''fidelity fund'' to compensate clients who have become victims of fraud perpetrated by solicitors. Does any other country have such a system? (As far as I am aware, United Kingdom's Law Society does not demand similar contributions). What kind of rationale does this idea follow - to penalise the innocent for the deeds of the wicked? Or is it that the whole legal profession is riddled with ''fraudulent acts''? Also, have such drastic measures been considered by members of the Law Society itself? Can someone please help clear up these questions? NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
