OOCL vessel named

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has named its second ice-strengthened container vessel the OOCL Belgium.

Tung Chee-chen, chairman of OOCL parent Orient Overseas (International), said the vessel would further enhance OOCL's services in the trans-Atlantic trade.

The 2,800-teu (20 ft equivalent units) OOCL Belgium is to be deployed between northern Europe and Montreal. Its systems and equipment are designed to operate at temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees.

The vessel was named at Daewoo Heavy Industries' Okpo shipyard on Koje Island, Korea, by Mary Liu, wife of Wall Street Plaza president John Liu.
