They won a pledge from Secretary for Education and Manpower Joseph Wong Wing-ping that he would consider closing a loophole in a labour law that allows the workers to be hired under the title of domestic helpers.
The law is intended to allow only the employment of foreign maids but officials from the Federation of Trade Unions said it had allowed an increasing number of foreigners willing to work for less pay to replace local drivers.
Azon Canete of the Mission for Filipino Migrant Workers said some employers hired foreigners who did domestic work and driving.
