A 60-year-old blacksmith had sex with a mentally handicapped woman who has since given birth, a court heard yesterday. The blacksmith, Lo Shing, appeared at the District Court charged with four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a mentally retarded person between January and December last year. He denied the charges. The 35-year-old woman, whose mental growth was stunted when she suffered a fever at the age of three, was said to have an IQ of 55 and a social age of eight, the court heard. It was alleged Lo had approached the woman on a Wan Chai street early last year. He was said to have taken her to a nearby guesthouse where he gave her pornographic magazines to read and then had intercourse with her, the court heard. According to the woman - interviewed by a Social Welfare Department clinical psychologist - Lo then gave her $100 and told her not to tell anyone in her family. Intercourse had taken place four times at the same place, the court was told. She returned home on March 6 this year complaining of stomach pains and was taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital where she gave birth to a girl. The trial continues today before Judge David Gill.
