Contrary to Richard Cook's impression in his article headlined, 'On shaky ground' (Postmagazine, October 4), the New Age is not populated by apocalyptic visions of doom and gloom.

In fact, they occupy a small fringe and are not restricted to the New Age. Christians are probably out-performing us in this league. The idea or myth of an approaching 'golden dawn' is common to history and other cultures. As I understand it, the New Age has nothing to do with these apocalyptic visions of earthquakes and disaster. These disturbing visions take us away from the realisation that the New Age is here and now and that we all need to help each other make the planet a better place to live in, in a very practical way.

There are a lot of people working quietly for a better world who are not relying on disaster but on humanity's continued evolution, but they are walking on firm ground in everyday lives.
