A City University professor has pledged to work to end the disputes that have haunted the institution's law school.
Professor David Smith, acting Law School dean, who arrived in Hong Kong in mid-August, said he wanted to focus on the future.
'It is important to have intelligent debate in law schools, but it should not become personal. I think morale is quite high and students like the teachers. The disputes are in the past,' he said.
Among the disputes was one over marking standards. Lecturer Derry Wong Hak-ming accused the department of marking examination papers to ensure a high percentage of students passed.
Professor Smith said law teachers should become role models for their students.
'We should show our students how to solve problems and deal with them in a positive way.' He said he had met the staff and tried to find out what problems they had.
