Advice for travellers

A TRAVEL industry watchdog has asked visitors to China to approach it with any complaints about travel across the border.

The move follows complaints by clients of Hong Thai Citizens' Travel that they suffered a nightmare tour to Guangdong.

Mr Peter Siu King-sun, executive director of the Travel Industry Council, said: ''We can't do anything unless people actually complain to us.

''If the parties concerned are not satisfied with the findings of our complaints handling committee, we go to arbitration.'' Clients of Hong Thai said that a promised special train to take them from Shenzhen to Shaoguan did not show up and they had had to take a public train.

Hong Thai says it paid $150 to each tour member.

The money was from the company which had failed to provide the coaches in China, and not Hong Thai, it said.
