Teachers last night called on the new education chief to spend more time listening to their opinions instead of rushing through policies.
Some teachers said outgoing Director of Education Helen Yu Lai Ching-ping was hard working but sometimes subjective and reluctant to listen to others.
They hoped Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun, who is leaving her post of Commissioner for Transport, would respect and consult teachers.
Cheung Man-kwong, legislator and Professional Teachers' Union president, praised Mrs Yu as a responsible and hardworking director.
'But her biggest mistake was ordering elderly teachers and principals to quit their jobs. This has hurt a lot of teachers.
'We are also disappointed that Mrs Yu has not done much to persuade Tung Chee-hwa to ban the policy to add two more students to each primary class.' Other policies strongly opposed by educationalists were beyond her control, Mr Cheung admitted, as they came from the Chief Executive.
