A jobless immigrant was being sought by police last night over the murder of five-year-old Yu Chi-fung.
The suspect, 34, whom police said had immigrated from Vietnam, was said to match the description of the man who lured the schoolboy to his death from a playground in Un Chau Estate on Saturday.
The man has not returned to his room on the ninth floor of a building in Castle Peak Road, Cheung Sha Wan, since the boy's body was found in a nylon bag.
The body, with a toy sword believed to have been used to lure the boy away from a playmate, was found in the building's stairwell.
A property agent who rented the room to the man said he had told her he was unemployed and lived on public assistance, but sometimes worked as a TV extra.
The agent said the man, who spoke fluent Cantonese, moved into the 50-square-foot room three or four months ago and paid $1,930 a month rent.
