My wife and I are still in the process of coming to terms with the tragic death, through poisoning, of our beloved six-year-old German Shepherd, Otto, on October 7.
Some people obviously derive some sadistic and sick pleasure from laying horrendously lethal doses of phosphate-based baits. Otto was a magnificent creature in the prime of life. I can assure you the suffering that this dog endured with chronic vomiting, diarrhoea, pain, dehydration and debilitation was criminal. For such a large healthy dog to 'crash' so quickly some perverted individual placed significant amounts of lethal substances in a calculated way in specific areas.
This attack happened either inside or in the immediate vicinity of Mount Butler Government Quarters. I beseech all dog owners to ensure they prevent their dogs from picking up anything from the ground. I hope the authorities can increase efforts to deal with this ongoing problem, which has clearly moved away from the usual 'killing field' of Bowen Road.
