Cargo handlers did not think slow systems and unfinished work at SuperTerminal 1 would pose a problem on airport opening day, it was revealed yesterday.
Staff of Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (HACTL) said they were 'worried' about slow-performing systems and continuing works a week before the airport opening.
But despite their concern, they remained optimistic that everything would be operational on day one, the Commission of Inquiry on the New Airport heard.
HACTL's general manager (operations) Johnnie Wong Tai-wah told the commission that the box storage system at the terminal was 'reacting very slowly' in the run-up to July 6.
'I was worried about the operation speed of the system and a lot of things in the building were incomplete.
'But we thought it would be okay on opening day.' SuperTerminal 1's systems crashed on day one, paralysing freight processing.
