I refer to the article headlined, 'High stakes for Snowdown', by Stuart Ridsdale (South China Morning Post, October 8).
As someone who was born in the Snowdonia National Park and grew up in Capel Curig, in the shadow of Snowdon, I was pleased to read about this worthy cause.
I wish to point out, however, that the Welsh name for Snowdon is not 'Eryri' as stated in your article, but 'Yr Wyddfa'.
'Eryri, Place of the Eagles' is the Welsh term used for Snowdonia.
Furthermore, the photograph of a mountain which accompanied the article is not Snowdon but is, in fact, Tryfan, a 900-metre peak situated in the Ogwen Valley some distance from Snowdon.
A photograph of Snowdon, probably one of the most photographed mountains in the UK, accompanying the article would have presented a more accurate picture of what the appeal is all about.
