Wharf (Holdings)' telecoms arm, New T&T, has hit out at the industry regulator for failing to enforce its own rulings over unauthorised activities by Hongkong Telecom.
The company claimed that the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (Ofta) had dropped its requirement that Telecom collect full charges from customers who were offered international call discounts in breach of its licence last June.
At the time Telecom was fined $20,000 and told to charge customers the extra amount.
New T&T said Ofta was now appearing to let Telecom 'evade' the consequences of breaches of the competition elements of its licence.
'New T&T's confidence in the competitive and regulatory environment for telecommunications in Hong Kong is being severely tested in this matter,' New T&T chairman Stephen Ng said.
The companies called for 'urgent action' from Ofta to enforce its June directive against Telecom.
