Why you can trust SCMP

Despite the tough economic times the Hong Kong community came forward and gave its generous support to famine-stricken North Korean children at the Food Aid Concert at the Convention Centre on October 17.

The benefit concert starring Spanish tenor Jose Carreras and including local pop singer, Andy Lau, was a huge success thanks to the goodwill from individual and corporate donors. The proceeds from the concert and gala dinner will be used to buy food which will be channelled directly to the starving children via the Hong Kong Christian Council.

Since 1995, up to 2.4 million people in North Korea have died from famine, mostly children. Our contribution from this benefit concert will hopefully help stem this tragedy.

We thank everyone for your generous support. If you would like to make any further donations, please contact the Hong Kong Christian Council at 2368-7123 or fax 2724-2131.
