The 'cost busters'

The Municipal Sector division provides operation and maintenance services to electrical, mechanical and building systems for four main categories of clients.

They are government departments, autonomous bodies such as the Provisional Urban Council and Provisional Regional Council, trading fund operations such as the Post Office Trading Fund and public corporations such as the Airport Authority.

During the 1997-98 financial year, the division's on-site and visiting teams served Kai Tak Airport and more than 1,600 Provisional Urban Council and Provisional Regional Council sites.

They also served three mail- handling centres, as well as the China and Macau ferry terminals.

Municipal sector staff helped maintain lighting systems at venues such as the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, operated filtration and pumping systems for fountains and swimming pools, designed and installed security systems at libraries and worked with museums to introduce interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations.

The reorganisation and regionalisation programme introduced after the establishment of the Trading Fund has brought major time and cost-savings benefits to customers of the division.
