A MACAU man has been sentenced to death after he exploded grenades inside the customs hall at the Zhuhai border crossing, injuring five officers. The semi-official Hongkong China News Agency said yesterday that Wu Dejin, a textile factory worker, had admitted charges of exploding three grenades at the Gongbei checkpoint on February 28. He was sentenced to death by the Zhuhai People's Intermediate Court, the report said. It did not specify a date for the sentence to be carried out. The agency said Wu, 38, had bought three Soviet-made grenades for 70 yuan (HK$95) in Guangxi three days earlier. He hurled the grenades at custom officers when he was taken into a room for body search.
