Hong Kong businesses will increasingly outsource non-core activities, a seminar was told yesterday.
The trend would be accelerated by the economic slump and the development of new technologies which make outsourcing more attractive, speakers said.
They said more companies were turning to outsourcing as they cut costs and as new digital technologies made the practice worthwhile for both users and providers.
PriceWaterhouseCo_opers partner Colin Farrell said: 'Outsourcing has perhaps come later to Hong Kong than other places . . . because we have been fortunate.
'There is uncertainty in industry as old industries converge and new industries emerge . . . outsourcing allows organisations to remain flexible on addressing this uncertainty.
'Businesses can instead focus on their own evolution [while allowing them] to leverage the advanced network communications infrastructure in Hong Kong.' Hongkong Telecom general manager William Kwan said many outsourcing applications were ready today.
