I refer to your reader's letter headlined 'Irresponsible dog owners' (South China Morning Post, October 14) concerning dog fouling in Chung Hom Kok and wish to thank your correspondent for making the appeal to dog owners.
We do hope that dog owners and those who take care of the dogs can fully use the dog latrines and excreta collection bins provided by the Urban Services Department at places where people would like to walk their pets.
Take Chung Hom Kok as an example. The department has provided six dog latrines and six excreta collection bins at convenient locations including Ching Sau Lane. I would remind readers that the maximum penalty for fouling public places is a fine of $5,000 on the first conviction and $10,000 on repeated conviction. Should your reader have further inquiries, I can be contacted at 2553 2484.
