AU TROU NORMAND G/F, 6 Carnarvon Road, Tsim Sha Tsui Tel: 2366-8754 Open: noon-3pm, 6pm-11pm For a taste of country French food at just slightly cheaper than luxury hotel prices, head on over to this restaurant hidden away in the depths of Tsim Sha Tsui.
The place is small and rather dark, but the menu is large, extensive and expensive.
It includes lots of old-fashioned, country favourites, including sauteed veal kidneys and sweetbreads, frogs legs, ratatouille Nicoise, bouillabaise and chicken with tarragon.
Grilled prawns are attractively presented but dry - the large, halved prawns need to be brushed with a little more oil to protect them from the heat of the grill.
Veal sweetbreads and kidneys are perfectly cooked - the kidneys a little pink at the centre, and the sweetbreads cooked completely through - but they would benefit from a more intense and flavourful sauce.
A side order of haricot verts is a large helping of al dente, sweet and very healthy tasting thin green beans - they would be better with a touch of garlic.
