School makes splash with first swimming gala
Kowloon True Light Middle School held its first swimming gala at Morse Park Swimming Pool. It was one of the events planned to celebrate the moving of True Light from the mainland to Hong Kong 50 years ago.
Before the event, besides the swimmers, the four house cheering teams, schoolmates and teachers were also excitedly preparing for it. When the big day came, the competitors had different expectations about the event.
'Before getting into the water, I just hoped that I would not fall far behind the others. Yet, to my surprise, I finished third in both the 25-metre and 50 m freestyle.
'I am really grateful to my mother who forced me to learn swimming when I was young,' said prize-winner Ho Pui-wing.
With the cheering teams shouting at the top of their voices, the gala was brought to a climax with the inter-house 4 x 50 m relay. In a surprise result, Lai House changed from third position to first.
While Lai House received a lot of medals at the prize presentation, Shing House managed to take the overall champion title.
