About 40,000 pirated digital video discs (DVDs) worth $6 million were part of a haul of 270,000 optical discs seized in raids on 15 factories on Thursday.

 Seven men and four women, aged 19 to 68, were arrested and three syndicates engaged in the distribution of pirated discs were uncovered. The pirated items were imported from Indonesia and Taiwan.

 Customs officials said pirated DVDs were part of a growing trend because of the demand for high quality products.

 Macau Police found 274,000 pirated video compact discs in a truck and arrested two men at the mainland border.
