Seven-store video chain Movieland yesterday confirmed it was interested in taking over KPS, which went into receivership on Thursday.

Owner Colin Grant said any action would depend upon the financial details of the one-time rival, which will be supplied by appointed receivers Ernst & Young.

'I don't want to comment [further] on it at the moment. I think that says it all,' Mr Grant said.

He said Movieland would have to look at possible investors for KPS before deciding whether to put in a bid.

'I have not seen one single figure and I cannot tell without having looked at the position of KPS.' Park'N Shop, with many of its supermarkets near some of the 38 KPS outlets, is also believed to be interested in the video chain.
