Hong Kong families can host foreign exchange students in their homes for the academic year 1998-99. Aged between 16 and 18, the students come from countries as diverse as Turkey, Spain, New Zealand, Brazil and Iceland. Host families provide meals and accommodation, while American Field Service Intercultural Exchanges (AFS) pays for school fees, books and transportation to school. AFS is a non-profit student exchange programme and has given more than 250,000 young people the opportunity to attend school in another country and culture, while living with a local host family.
