Long wait 'to blame for attack'
A man frustrated by queuing for his social welfare payment ended up punching a social worker, a court heard yesterday.
Fu Mun-tong, 29, pleaded guilty in Eastern Court to common assault and criminal damage. Before attacking the social worker, Fu had kicked a plastic leaflet rack at the Social Welfare Department office in New Jade Garden, Chai Wan, on May 2.
Fu lost his temper and lashed out with his foot because he had been waiting too long, the court heard.
Assistant social worker Hu Wai-kei asked Fu why he kicked the rack. Fu gave no reply and fled. The social worker gave chase, intercepting him near Chai Wan station. Fu then punched Mr Hu in the chest and ran into the station, where he was arrested.
Magistrate James Lee Chung-yin released Fu on bail and ordered a psychologist's report.
The case was adjourned until December 4.
