Make it a royal opening

KING STAR, trained by Neville Begg looks poised to take out the opening event today.

The spotlight of course will be on the International Cup and Bowl clashes, but another six very interesting and competitive races have been put together, making it a tough day ahead for the punters.

However, jockey Robert Thompson and the son of Dalsaan could easily start you off in the right direction to the pay-out windows after the first race.

King Star came back after a lengthy break to face the starter over 1,200 metres last time out, a trip clearly short of his best.

Regardless, he was running on nicely at the finish behind the in-form pair of Dashing and Octagon Star - two horses who both won last time out - making the form for that race particularly good.

The 1,400 metre trip today combined with an advantageous draw looks tailor-made for King Star and it's hard to see him not being involved at the business end of proceedings.
