Hutchison Telecom says it will have to give 'serious consideration' to new investment plans if the Government decides to open the local fixed-line and gateway facilities market to more competition. Investment in the fixed-line network had already been stopped pending an announcement by the Government, expected before the end of the year. Hutchison Telecom managing director Dennis Lui said the company had stopped awarding new contracts for work. Hutchison yesterday launched its own Internet service, named HutchCity, in partnership with Microsoft. The service - aimed at the consumer rather than business market - has set a target of about 100,000 customers by 2000.
