Downsizing, education and the role of part-time and contract employees are some of the issues to be addressed in a human resources programme at Baptist University.

Beginning in March, the university will offer a diploma in human resources management which can be completed part-time through evening study over a 20-month period.

The course will be conducted in Cantonese with some of the materials in English. About 70 spots will be available.

Alison Chan, academic adviser of the Baptist University School of Continuing Education's business management programme, said the programme had been created to bring a greater level of professionalism to an occupation which was constantly evolving.

The idea for the programme, which required about 360 hours of study to complete, came from comments by the school's students. Many were already working in the human resources field and had voiced their disappointment about no suitable course to further their studies.
