It was the second time around for Duty Free Shoppers Hong Kong (DFS) which scooped similar awards to last year - a Hong Kong Retail Management Association Customer Service Award and a Hong Kong Tourist Association Tourism Services Award.

'As a travel retailer, we believe that to participate in this sort of competition is very meaningful. It shows a commitment to our standard of service and proves that we are going in the right direction and contributing to the long-term success of Hong Kong's tourist industry,' Joseph Chan, the company's director of sales and marketing, said.

Founded in 1961, DFS has grown from a single Hong Kong store into an international retail operation with more than 150 outlets worldwide.

It operates three stores in Tsim Sha Tsui and nine concessions at Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok.

Its largest store in Hong Kong is the 82,000 square foot DFS Galleria on Peking Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, which opened in June 1996. The Galleria illustrates the company's new corporate vision of what tourists, who constitute DFS' main customers, want.

'The Galleria is a shopping plus entertainment environment under one roof. Apart from value-for-money merchandise and a high standard of customer service, we offer live music and in-store demonstrations,' Mr Chan said.
