Close watch on rescued woman, 97

A close watch would be kept on a 97-year-old woman found after lying next to her dead godson for a week, the Social Welfare Department said yesterday.

Wheelchair-bound Cheung Sau-wan was found semi-conscious next to the body of Wong Lam, 68, in a flat in Sau Mau Ping Estate on Monday.

It is believed Ms Cheung survived with no food or water for about a week after Wong collapsed.

She was in United Christian Hospital yesterday suffering from dehydration.

'Medical social workers at the hospital are following her case,' a spokeswoman for the Social Welfare Department said.

'We will see if she needs to be placed in a home for the elderly after the hospital discharges her.
