The Mass Transit Railway Corporation's 'pursuit of excellence' was largely responsible for its continued success in the best annual report awards, according to finance director Clement Kwok.
The MTRC was named winner of the best overall report for the fourth year, having previously won the highest accolade from 1990-92 and in 1994.
It has also received a special 25th anniversary award along with First Pacific - recognition for the two companies being the most consistent performers in the annual competition over the years.
In 1989, 1993 and from 1995- 97, the corporation took gold in the non-Hang Seng index category.
'It's part of the pursuit of excellence in everything we undertake,' Mr Kwok said. 'Each year we have an overriding wish to prepare a document that will make people feel they are getting a very good insight into our company.' The time and effort the MTRC put into its annual reports was a crucial part of its business strategy and done for sound business reasons, he said.
'It comes down to the attitude with which we approach our report. We have always placed a lot of importance on the quality and transparency of our reporting and disclosure.
'We do that primarily because we have always been a very active borrower in the international capital markets.
