EVA joins Lufthansa in freight operation
Taiwan's EVA Airways has launched a weekly cargo service to Frankfurt in co-operation with Lufthansa Cargo.
The carriers started the cargo 'trans-loading' service via Sharjah last Thursday.
Initially, EVA Air will operate Taipei-Sharjah-Taipei flights on Thursdays linking with Lufthansa's Frankfurt-Sharjah-Frankfurt flights, with a limited connection time in Sharjah of only two hours.
Both airlines, which planned to increase flight frequency in line with market development, would operate the new cargo service with MD-11, all-freight aircraft, an EVA official said.
They will promote services jointly between Germany and Taiwan and will have access to each other's cargo networks, including destinations in Europe, Asia, India, and the Middle East.
By the third quarter of next year, EVA's cargo fleet will expand to nine MD-11s, giving it increased capacity. The carrier will be poised then to make maximum use of its destination resources and cargo capacity with the additional use of 10 B747-400 Combi aircraft.
