I REFER to Bernard Levin's article, ''Where Christians are still thrown in the lions' den'' (South China Morning Post, March 24). Mr Levin, like several other writers, blames Islam for the action of countries considered to be part of the ''Islamic world''.
There is no truly Islamic country in the world. In a truly Islamic society, you can practise any religion you choose and other religions' holy places and traditions will be respected. You are not forced to follow Islam. In Saudi Arabia it is illegal to preach any other religion except Islam. This runs contrary to Islam's teachings.
In looking at human rights abuses committed by Islamic governments, he conveniently omits mention of the Muslims of Bosnia, who are victims of unspeakable atrocities committed by Christian Serbs. These atrocities include, mass genocide, rape, destructionof entire towns and villages and the blocking of UN convoys of food and medicine.
Religion and politics are two entirely different subjects, and should be considered mutually exclusive. No religion promotes aggression. The fact that man engages in war is purely for political reasons.
