A teen was found not guilty yesterday of raping a girl on her 14th birthday but may yet receive a 'short, sharp shock' for admitting having sex with her.

Wong Yun-lung was 18 when he had sex with the girl on December 8. She had spent the eve of her 14th birthday drinking and playing games with him and others she met through a man with whom she had played telephone games.

A jury of six men and one woman at the Court of First Instance found Wong not guilty of raping the girl by a six-one majority.

Wong never disputed having intercourse and pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a girl under the age of 16. He said he had not known the girl's age.

After the verdict, Mr Justice Thomas Gall disputed defence arguments that it was difficult to tell her age and that the sentence should be lenient because of it.

'I saw the victim, she didn't exactly look very old,' he said.
