Our Assistant Secretary for Environment, Planning and Lands, Steve Barclay, is remaining true to Hong Kong's principles of free market economics by refusing subsidies to paper recyclers (report headlined, 'No subsidy for waste paper recyclers, says Government', South China Morning Post, December 2).

The fact that waste paper previously recycled may now end up in landfills at the taxpayer's expense will not cause our Government to deviate from its free market principals.
I wonder how the Government reconciles this supposed free market stance with its $120 billion ongoing intervention in the Hang Seng Index.
