Police in Macau who seized a cache of arms and ammunition from a flat yesterday believe it was connected to recent violence in the enclave. The cache consisted of an AK-47 rifle, a China military-issue .54 Black Star semi-automatic pistol, three hand-grenades and two home-made grenades linked to radio pagers. The cache also included a quantity of explosives and rounds of ammunition. Reports early today said police had not arrested anyone in connection with the seizure but senior officers said they believed the cache was linked to recent violence. Yesterday's seizure was made after teams of Judiciary Police carried out a series of operations targeting homes of suspects. The cache was uncovered at a flat that was raided and taken to police headquarters for ballistics analysis. A man, 22, was shot in the thigh by a gunman on a motorcycle in a Macau street last night. A passerby stopped a passing car to take the victim to hospital. Police recovered a spent bullet.
