Dry and scaly skin means living in hot climates is no sweat for reptiles

Reptiles' skins are dry and scaly and have no sweat glands, so no water escapes through the skin.

This is important because many reptiles live in hot, dry places. If they sweated, they would dry out and die.

The 'skin' of an insect is actually its skeleton.

Called an exoskeleton because it is outside the body, it is hard enough to protect the insect and support the rest of its body.

As the insect grows bigger, it has to shed the old exoskeleton and replace it with a new one.

Almost all fish have scales. Usually they are transparent and hard for protection.
