It could only happen in the US. Diners become celebrities, literally, at a new dinner theatre in Anaheim, California, that simulates the experience of attending a Hollywood awards show. The glitter at Tinseltown Studios begins at the front door. Guests are interviewed for a closed-circuit television show and make their way up a red carpet through a scrum of autograph-seekers and paparazzi, played by restaurant employees.
Inside, the so-called Oggie Awards (golden statuettes) are presented for best actors and actresses. These are really two of eight customers (four men and four women) who have been digitally inserted into films like Jurassic Park, shown on giant screens.
Into the past All of Scottish history has been distilled into five modern galleries in a new museum in Edinburgh's Old Town. The Museum of Scotland, although contemporary in style, is inspired by traditional Scottish castles, brochs (Iron Age monumental roundhouses), tower houses and tenements.
As well as traditional displays, information is available through interactive screens and a multimedia encyclopedia. The museum also includes a shop, restaurant, lecture theatre and cinema, as well as a roof terrace affording panoramic views of Edinburgh.
Square closed Tiananmen Square will be closed until May for renovations. The brick surface is being replaced with granite, and the street lights, decorative lights and public address system will all be improved.
Standing only The city of Florence has begun enforcing an old ordinance that bans sitting, eating and drinking on the steps of the Palazzo Vecchio. For a few months, traffic police and volunteers have been patrolling the steps to enforce the law, politely asking tourists to move along.
